Friends Helping Fiji

On February 21, Tropical Cyclone Winston, the most powerful cyclone in the Pacific nation's history, hit Fiji leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The category Five super storm flattened the village of Nukubalavu near Savusavu on Fiji's second biggest island Vanua Levu. Many of the 300-400 people that live in the village work at the Jean Michel Cousteau Fiji Island Resort and are dearly loved by those who have had the pleasure of staying at this magical place on the Coral Sea.

We are a group of Australian guests who love the resort and its incredible staff. We are desperately trying to raise money to rebuild the village. Twenty four  homes were damaged beyond repair and 21 are severely damaged. A brand new kindergarten  also suffered structural and water damage.

The fundraiser aims to raise urgent funds to build new cylone proof homes and to rebuild damaged buildings. We need materials primarily but will be using our own manpower to help with the rebuild.

Please help us rebuild Nukubalavu Village for the beautiful people who call it home. Four of us are heading to Savusavu this week from Australia to start the process of rebuilding. Any money raised will be distributed by the general manager of the Jean Michel Cousteau Fiji Island Resort Bart Simpson. Your donation means a lot to us, but for the people of  Nukubalavu Village it means the world. Vinaka vake levu (Thank you) from the bottom of our hearts.
