Volunteering in Tanzania

Donation protected
Friends and family,

As an employee of Slalom Consulting, one of our amazing benefits is a month long sabbatical after working for a certain number of years / hours. I qualify for my sabbatical in August, and am travelling to Tanzania in September to volunteer with a nonprofit called JUAf that focuses on  empowering and educating women and children. As I plan my trip, I'm looking to not only share my time with JUAf, but also help raise much needed funds to help keep the organization going.

A little background
My friend and Slalom colleague, Jude McAlpine, started JUAf five years ago with a desire to empower vulnerable women and children to empower themselves. JUAf does this by providing resources to assist in poverty eradication, specifically Microfinance, Village Banking, early childhood education, clean water, solar energy, agriculture and fish farming. Check out their website http://juaf.org/ to learn more about the work they do and the lives of women in the community that they support.

My motivation
I am beyond excited about this opportunity; we all have causes that are near and dear to our hearts - for me, it has always been supporting and enabling women and girls around the world to have the opportunity to thrive. I consider myself to be incredibly lucky - I was born in to a family that  has loved and encouraged me, to a community that has provided me opportunities and educated me, and  to country which has recognized my equal rights as an individual and a human.

By mere chance, I happened to end up in an area of the world that has provided me a pretty incredible life. Everyone should have that chance.

My ask of you
With that, I'm asking you to help me in making a difference with a community of women and children served by JUAf. Up until now, Jude has been able to finance the organization through the generosity of her friends and family. At this point, JUAf is having some financial difficulties and may have to close the preschool at the end of July and lay off employees. It costs around $1,100 a month to keep the entire place operating with all salaries (two teachers, a cook, a microfinance manager, a guard and  on-site management support). I'm looking to help JUAf finance the salaries of employees through the end of the year, so my stretch goal is $5,500 - let's see how close we can get!

Any amount you feel comfortable donating would be amazing - $5, $10, $20, $250 - whatever you think you can spend. If you're interested in a tax deduction, please include your address when you donate!

I hope you'll consider helping me by donating to JUAf - it's an opportunity to make a direct impact; keep a school running and continue to empower women to start their own businesses, bolstering up the economy in this small community. Please feel free to forward to anyone in your network who you think may be excited to contribute as well.

Thank you so much for your consideration. Sending lots of love.

Tara
