Remi - Beating and Living with IMHA

Donation protected
Remi has been diagnosed with Primary Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA)  https://bluepearlvet.com/medical-articles/immune-mediated-hemolytic-anemia-thrombocytopenia/ . A blood disorder that causes his immune system to attack and destroy the red blood cells for an unknown reason (check the above link for the full details of the disease). Remi came to us from the Windsor Humane society in October 2017. He came to Canada as very young puppy with his brothers and sisters after the hurricanes came through Texas earlier that year. This is his story. Remi was taken into emergency on his first birthday, July 31st, after an unusual dizzy spell and moments of confusion and extremely pale gums and eyes over a 24hr period . Remi underwent several days of testing between Windsors Walker Road Animal Hospital, on emergency, http://www.walkerrdanimalhosp.ca and his home veterinarians office at Essex Animal Hospital, http://www.essexanimalhospital.ca, Remi was then referred to BluePearl Specialty and Emergency Pet Hospitals, https://bluepearlvet.com, critical care facility in Southfield Michigan. There his condition has stabilized after 3 nights in critical care, under going a blood transfusion and starting his immunosuppressive medications. This is a disease Remi and his people will need to live with and recognize for the rest of his life. The treatment plan currently calls for very high doses of the immunosuppressive drugs in order for stop his body from killing the red blood cells. This treatment will continue for 6 months during which time the doctors plan to ween him off the drugs as they get the disease into remission. Unfortunately this has been a very expensive veterinary experience not to mention the medication required going forward. His current treatment plan is estimated at $7500 USD. This plan includes 2 blood transfusions multiple blood testings to verify treatment, immunosuppressive drugs and 5 nights in hospital. On a positive note, his prognosis is very good once it has been identified and taken control of. Remis' future is bright and he can live a good full life even if he's on medication for the rest of his years. At the young age of 1, he has many years of love left to give and receive. With a little help we can be sure he is able to access the best care available and live a happy and rewarding life. Any donations above and beyond Remis treatment costs will be donated to an animal charity.
