Please join us and support our Black Mountain Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team in their quest to attend World Finals held at Iowa State University May 23-26. This team of 7 girls spent the last 6 months solving problem 3 Mocumentary; Seriously? They read the classic story The Hobbit and created a humorous documentary-style performance where details were added, denied, exaggerated, and disputed. They created interviews, behind-the-scenes interactions and voice overs to take the audience through the story and help present the events as they “really” took place in Middle Earth. The girls used milk cartons, plastic spoons, candy wrappers and more to create their set, props and costumes.
The girls placed 1st at the regional tournament held at Black Mountain Middle School and 1st place at the California State Tournament held at UC Riverside on Saturday, March 24th. Now they have the opportunity to have the experience of a lifetime by attending World Finals. They will be able to compete against teams from all over the world, stay in the campus dorms, attend NASA sponsored activities and even be buddies to an international team. Of course, there are lots of expenses associated with shipping our set pieces from San Diego to Iowa and the expense of the campus housing and flights.
