On April 29, 2012, our world changed forever.  On that day, I developed jaundice and was taken to Kingsport for endoscopy of my stomach.  They found cancer in my small intestine, at the point of my bile duct.  The doctors determined that I needed whipple surgery, which meant I was cut from one side to the other, and several parts of my stomach were removed. The recovery was long and I was on oxygen and a feeding tube.  After 6 months I began to heal and thought I would be going back to work.  Our prayers and those of family, friends and people and churches we didn't even know, had been answered.

On January 2, 2013, I had a massive heart attack, which destroyed the left side of my heart.  Another trip to Kingsport, only to be told there was nothing they could do for me.  We then went to UVA hospital in Charlottesville. The doctors there told us they had a pump (LVAD) that could be placed in the chest that would help the left side of the heart to move the blood as it should.

In the mean time, the company I was working for shut down and we lost our health insurance.  Thankfully, Medicaid was approved to help with the pump, but I had to be cancer free. After 3 CAT and 1 PET scan, I was declared cancer free.

I had surgery and the pump installed on January 17, 2013. I lost 50 pounds in the hospital and was finally released to come home.  Was told if I was cancer free for 2 years (August 2014), my name would be placed on the heart transplant list.

We thought our life was back on track after I gained some weight back and was able to work part time for my sister. Her help was invaluable to me and to my morale.

April 2014, our world came crashing down again.  Cancer again!  I am in the middle of radiation again with chemo to follow.  The hope of a heart transplant is gone for now.

We would like to thank Peggy and Larry Austin, Kellee and Brad Patton, Mom and Dad, Phillip Moore, Pat and Aubrey Ward and Richard and Kathy Ferguson for their financial help, but also for their prayers. And to all of our other friends that have helped, we are eternally grateful.

We are in desperate need of your help!  We are going to lose our home and everything else we have.  Our savings is gone, Debbie is unable to work because of her kidney transplant and unable to receive disability. I have finally been approved for disability, but it is not enough to make house payment, feed us, pay normal living expenses or buy medicine for me or Debbie.  Any contribution you could make will be greatly appreciated

Thanks to all,
Mike and Debbie Stewart
