PS516 PTA Covid19 Emergency Aid

Dear all,
It has been incredible to see how many people want to support the PS 516 community, and we are so grateful for your support. Through these generous donations we have been able to supply grocery gift cards to dozens of families, but as the number of families in need has grown exponentially, we've raised our fundraising goal so we can continue assisting our families in need. Please continue to spread the word!

To our Sunset Park friends and neighbors, near and far,

Our amazing, strong, and vibrant PS516 community has been hit hard by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Some of our families have lost loved ones. They and many others have also suffered job loss, or have fallen victim to this virus themselves. Our Title I school is home to a hard-working community –who even in the best of times may live paycheck to paycheck—and today those families are struggling to meet basic needs. As always, PS516 PTA’s primary goal is to support and uplift our students and families, and at this time our community’s greatest need is food security.
After consulting with the school administration about the health and welfare of the student body, the PTA Board recently made the decision to redirect the remaining balance of this year’s operating budget to an emergency aid fund to buy grocery gift cards for families in need. Working with the school community, we have been able to support more than twenty families to date, but as the crisis in our community will continue as the weeks go on, the level of need is far greater than the PTA's limited ability to address with these funds.
On behalf of the PTA Board, we are asking those who can to support our families through this crisis by making a tax-deductible donation to this GoFundMe page. All funds will be deposited directly into the PTA account and used for the continued purchase and distribution of grocery store gift cards to our PS516 families who are most in need.

A nuestros amigos y vecinos de Sunset Park, cerca y lejos, nuestra increíble, fuerte, y vibrante comunidad de PS 516 se ha visto afectada por la pandemia de COVID-19. Algunas de nuestras familias han perdido a sus seres queridos. Ellos y muchos otros también han sufrido la pérdida del empleo o han sido víctimas de este virus. Nuestra escuela, Título I, es el hogar de una comunidad trabajadora, con muchas familias que viven de un sueldo a otro, y hoy esas familias están luchando para satisfacer las necesidades básicas. Estas tarjetas se podrán usar en el supermercado para comida y otras necesidades.
