Help My Wife Gena With Her Surgery

Donation protected
In 1986, Gena went for a thyroid surgery in Chinandega, Nicaragua, during Contra war.  During the surgery, the doctors accidentally paralyzed her vocal cords.  For many years she had problems breathing after the surgery, usually only %20 airflow.

In 1999, Gena got pneumonia, she was rushed to the hospital and the doctors discovered the damage the previous surgery had done.  Then the doctors performed an emergency tracheostomy and they put her on a breathing machine (ventilator).  She recovered from the pneumonia.

Now today in 2014, she still breathes through the tracheostomy, and we are trying to raise money for a new surgery to fix the problem.  We found a doctor in Miami who is confident he can help.  He has diagnosed she needs a Airway Reconstruction (Medialization Laryngoplasty) surgery.  The estimate is $5000 for the surgery itself, $7000 for the hospital, and we are asking for $3000 for preliminary visits and procedures.

This would give Gena the opportunity to have the tracheostomy removed so that she could get back to her normal activities.  She would talk normally, as she did before.

As a musician, I am glad to offer my services or recordings in exchange for your help.  I have seen my wife sick all these years and I am very concerned to help her get back to normality.  We are looking for all possible ways to help her.  Also, I am going to do local concerts and fundraising in Nicaragua and Miami to continue the campaign for Gena.
