Fulbright in Slovakia

I am a recent graduate of Georgetown College, where I received my B.A. in English and had the opportunity to study abroad at Regent's Park College, Oxford University. Thanks to the wonderful faculty at Georgetown, I now have another amazing opportunity to be a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Kosice, Slovakia. As many of you know, I will be leaving for Slovakia at the end of August 2014 to begin my grant. I will be teaching English to high school students while in Kosice, as well as living on my own for the first time in my life. Going abroad to teach has been a dream of mine for years, and I am really humbled and proud that I will get represent my alma mater and to fulfill my dream as a Fulbrighter.
An old Greek lady on the island of Santorini once told me that "Dreams are not expensive. We can still have dreams even if we have nothing else." Well, she is right that dreams are free, but fulfilling dreams is not cheap.
As many of you also know, saving money is hard to do. I applied to over 30 jobs this summer, but I could not find a second position, thus my savings account does not have nearly the amount of money in it that I had hoped for. While it is true that I do get funding from Fulbright, even the Fulbright program itself notes that they give the miniminal amount of funds needed. The purpose of this page is to raise money for some of my expenses that my Fulbright grant will not cover, such as a second suitcase, "teacher" clothes, and fixing my laptop screen (which recently broke at the most inconvenient time). Once I arrive in Slovakia, I am sure I will have to purchase things like bedding and some apartment furnishings. Whether you donate money or words of encouragement and support to this page, I am very thankful that you have taken the time to read this. I realize that many other people have much more important causes that you could donate to, so any support I am given will not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
