Help Blue Family beat brain cancer

This page was started to help the family of Scott and Lauren Blue deal with the financial strain of a child with brain cancer, while caring for the rest of the family as well.  


During a whirlwind few weeks, the Blue family welcomed a newborn baby and learned that one of their 6 year old twin girls had Medullablastoma (a type of brain cancer). The treatment plan for this type of cancer is traditionally radiation therapy and chemotherapy.  


Right now the biggest hurdle is the 12 weeks of unpaid time off. FMLA leave allows for 12 weeks of protected leave, but that is all unpaid. Bills continue to come in during that unpaid time, groceries still have to be purchased, electricity and mortgage paid etc. While FMLA is wonderful and allows for Mom and Dad to be with Bella during her inpatient treatment, it doesn’t account for all of the other things that need to be handled during that time.  


Even with decent health insurance, the financial strain of intense medical treatment is difficult to bear, especially on a one income household. Lauren was working part time before the baby was born 3 weeks ago, but has not yet been able to return to work between the new baby and the cancer diagnosis for Bella. Scott has been able to be with Bella during her inpatient stays so far, but will have to use FMLA going forward, which means no income during those 3 months. 


During this time, financial assistance will be used for medical bills, but also to help with running the household during times of unpaid leave for both Scott and Lauren.
