Official Blue Boat Restoration Campaign

Beschermde donatie
The Wooden Boat Program in HMCS QUADRA and across Canada was core to learning seamanship, shipwright and boat handling skills, sailing, along with simply building confidence for thousands of young Canadians enrolled in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Program.

Wooden Boats used by the Royal Canadian Navy, were procured by the cadet program and this was instrumental to also keeping many Naval traditions alive.

The last remaining Wooden Boats in HMCS QUADRA were Cutter 7 and now Blue Boat.  Cutter 7 is well into its refurbishment phase and the Cutter 7 Working Group made up of group of 7 Crusty Alumni will be working on a long-term sustainability plan over the next while.  This group turned over ownership of Cutter 7 to the Lower Mainland Division  Navy league of Canada; this said, complete control for restoration remains in the hands of the working group.  A number of donors contributed to get this project off the ground for which we give immense thanks!

Another group of 4 Alumni came to Blue Boat’s rescue to save her from the chipper and threw some shillings together for a bid.  This group is in close contact with the Cutter 7 Working Group; there are some members which overlap, but it must be made clear these are two distinct projects, each with their own fundraising initiatives.  Monies will not overlap.

Thus a call for donations to help support Blue Boat - initially funds are required to offset expenses for purchase, short-term transport, and readiness to place in a museum; transport to its final resting place is not known at this time.

While normally a more solid plan would be in place before a call for donations, this group did not  have that luxury, and we are in need some immediate funding.  We expect the Blue Boat plan to be shorter term over the next 3-6 months or so - we don’t know what we don’t know!  Marc Dumais and Gordon Cave are taking the lead on this project.

As with the Cutter 7 Project,  project costs will be kept lean.  Donated services will be used where possible, Alumni will be engaged in work parties to get Blue Boat in ship shape for display (present plan), and  donors will be kept appraised every step of the way.   Any leftover funding will be either returned to donors or shifted over to the Cutter 7 fund; each donor will indicate their preference at the end of the project as to where they want their portion of any leftover funds to go.

if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Marc Dumais or Gordon Cave via messenger.

Thanks all!
