We all have fond memories of growing up in Bloomsburg and the times we spent on Main Street. Many of us remember the lunch counter at Woolworth's and afterwards taking a short walk to Sears or JC Penney's rather than a drive out to the mall. In the Downtown, we strolled around in the evenings to meet up with friends, enjoyed ice cream from Hurr’s, or pizza from Charlie’s while playing pinball. We made memories that have lasted a lifetime.
Over the years the businesses have changed, but the experiences remain. There are more options for food in the Downtown than ever before, from pizza and homemade ice cream to fine dining. It was, and remains, not just a gathering place, but the heart of the community.
Downtown Bloomsburg, Inc. (DBI) is a local non-profit dedicated to making Bloomsburg the regional hotspot to shop, dine in, live, and visit. To be successful, we need your help! Our three phase Revitalization Project is already underway, working with a highly experienced architecture and design firm to map out all the buildings in downtown Bloomsburg and research the area statistics. The next step is raising all the funds for a full development plan.
We need to look at our Downtown in new ways - to see what liabilities we can turn into assets and how we can improve what we already have. This means renovations for existing buildings as well as brand new construction. We'd like to see dozens of businesses open their doors! We want better landscaping and a more shop-able public square. We want beautiful pocket parks right on Main Street.
Those are a few of our ideas. What are yours?
Mariachi bands strolling Main Street on Wednesdays? A parking garage? A public piano by the fountain? A water slide at the courthouse? Help us create your next favorite restaurant, store, and memory in Bloomsburg!
