Bloominglabs Needs a New Space

Located in the lovely community of Bloomington, Indiana, Bloominglabs is Indiana's first makerspace, and we've been going strong since 2010. Makerspaces offer a lot to their communities, and Bloominglabs is no exception. People who don’t have the money or space for their own workshop can come to Bloominglabs’ 3100 square foot space to work on projects. Along with space, Bloominglabs offers access to tools and members are happy to share their expertise in a wide variety of skills from 3D printing to welding. We partner with other community organizations like the public library and Wonderlab, our local children's museum, to offer making programs for kids. And who can forget Makevention, an annual Maker convention hosted by Bloominglabs, that brings local and regional makers together to show off our awesome maker community.  As for our national community, we are proud to be part of the Nation of Makers , a national organization of makerspace organizers started by President Obama.
And now after 3 years at our current space on S. Rogers, we’ve learned our lease will terminate at the end of December, and we need to find a new space. Finding Bloominglabs a new space is always challenging. We raise nearly all our funds through dues and workshop fees, but being a charity, we keep those fees low. We can't afford market rent rates in Bloomington, and in the past we've been lucky to find spaces that can rent to us cheaply. The bad part about renting cheap spaces is  they often need a lot of renovations and require some investment to get them to meet our needs.
We've found a couple of possible new spaces, but bringing a new space up to snuff, installing new electrical wiring and networking, putting up walls - all this requires work, knowledge, and money. Bloominglabs has the talent and energy, but we need your help with the funds. If you have been helped by Bloominglabs in the past, or if you just want to help us continue providing maker resources to our various communities, any donation will help. It all adds up, and your donation is tax deductible as well. Thanks for helping us keep a good thing going!
