Menstrual products are things that are essential to those who menstruate, but are not always accessible. For those who experience financial instability and/or homelessness, menstruation can be a hassle on top of trying to survive day-to-day.
We recognize this struggle and have reached out to local shelters in Halifax and will be coordinating a menstrual product donation drive/fundraiser! Such products will be going towards Adsum for Women & Children as well as Barry House (Shelter Nova Scotia).
Statement from Adsum for Women & Children:
“Adsum House provides menstrual products to up to 16 women every day as well as to people who knock on our door from out in the community.
These products are expensive and there is no extra money provided to menstruating women. Women will need to go longer without changing and affect their health and hygiene.
It can mean choices of Buy Food OR Tampons and Ability to go out OR forced to stay alone.”
What we need:
We will be accepting tampons and monetary donations to purchase reusable menstrual products such as menstrual cups. We were notified that there is a greater preference for tampons and reusable menstrual products at the shelters rather than pads, so pad donations are not necessary. We prefer all-cotton and/or organic products as common products are more toxic to the body. If you cannot donate all-cotton/organic tampons, any type of tampon/pad brand will be ok!
Where you can drop off donations:
If you would like to donate products, please drop off products at Plan B Halifax, 2180 Gottingen Street, Halifax NS.
