Blood Cancer fundraising for my Dad
I will be running the Big Half Marathon in London on the 1st of September 2024 to raise money for Blood Cancer UK.
My world was turned upside down when my dad was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukaemia on the 29th of October 2023. We where away for a weekend in centre parcs when my dad started to feel extremely breathe-less and could barely walk up the road. He had not been feeling himself for a couple weeks prior but we all just brushed it off as long covid. He was then taken to a&e to get checked over and we all thought he’d be back to the lodge in no time after being checked over, which he was not. My dad was then taken to Addenbrooks where they confirmed his type of leukaemia. From here his treatment was planned out & he was given the go ahead they could carry out his treatment from Ipswich Hospital, which is where we are at now.
So far, my dad (Dougie Baxter) has gone through 2 rounds of chemotherapy. It has been tough but we believe and know in our hearts that he will get through this! He will never know how proud I am off him. My dad is my best friend and we have always had an amazing bond. He is the most amazing man and has the kindest heart in the world, he really doesn’t deserve what he is going through.
The reason why I am running a half marathon to raise money for blood cancer uk is to help others in my dad situation. Raising money for this charity will help research on blood cancers and hopefully find new treatments.
I have never ran in my life, but I think now is the time ! Seeing what my dad has been going and is still going through daily has inspired me to do this as it’ll put me out of my depth.
I would really appreciate any donations! Anything will help go towards this amazing cause.
Thank you - Caitlyn Baxter x
