Block Island Feral Cats Initiative

Block Island Feral Cats Initiative is a group of year-round Island residents, who have joined together with the Rhode Island Community Spay/Neuter Clinic of Warwick, RI and PawsWatch of Warwick, RI to actively assist with and proactively raise funds to help reduce and control the overpopulation of feral cats on Block Island.

We are hoping to accomplish this mission through funding an aggressive TNR (trap/neuter return) program. With your help, some of our Block Island feral cats will get a second chance at a good life.

For those Block Island cats who are feral (not socialized with humans and therefore unadoptable) after being trapped, spayed/neutered, vaccinated and having their left ear clipped to indicate sterilization, they are returned back to their familiar Block Island habitat and reunite with their colony without causing births of new feral kittens.

If some of our Block Island cats are adoptable, our mission is to raise the funds necessary and use every means at our disposal to introduce them into new homes both on and off the island. Block Island Feral Cats Initiative is dedicated to raising the money needed to have our Block Island feral kittens receive proper foster care for eventual adoption.

This type of program is successful in keeping new populations from springing up and giving these animals a chance of living a happy life.

100% of our fund-raising efforts and the donations collected are used to subsidize both direct and indirect costs associated with our endeavor. Such costs include: paying for the basic necessities for our cats and kittens while in the care of the Spay/Neuter Clinic, cat/kitten food, litter, crates/cages, travel costs on the Block Island Ferry for volunteers from PawsWatch to trap our feral cats, the spay/neuter surgery, anesthesia, sutures, pain relief, health exams, medicines, ear tipping, etc.

For our youngest kittens that need round-the-clock foster care before they can to be adopted, your donations will help to pay for them to be properly hand-raised by the volunteers at PawsWatch or PAAWS-RI.
