I, Charles King, am a 70-year old blind athlete.

At the age of 70, I am the oldest actively competing blind athlete and gold medalist on the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) Powerlifting team.

I am raising money so that I can compete in the 2020 USABA National Powerlifting Championship and represent the USA in the 2020 International Blind Sports Association World Blind Powerlifting Championship.

Competing in the 2019 World Blind Powerlifting Championship has made me the oldest blind American athlete in history to medal and set weight records.  In the 2020 International Blind Sports Association World Blind Powerlifting Championship, I would like to maintain this level of accomplishment.

The 2020 USABA National Powerlifting Championship will be in July and held in the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

My goal is to perform a 300 lb. squat, a 330 lb. bench press, and a 440 lb. deadlift -- totaling over 1,000 pounds.

Background

I first started competing as a blind athlete in 2010 at 60 years of age.

I have set lifting records and won several Gold medals in National Powerlifting Championships from 2010 to 2019.

In 2012 at the International Blind Sports Association World Blind Powerlifting Championships in which 22 countries competed, I set the bench press and deadlift records for a 62-year old (Masters3 age 60 to 69) athlete.

At the 2015 International Blind Sports Association Olympiad World games I finished with a fourth place world ranking against athletes 35 to 40 years younger than myself at 65 years old.    In 2012 at the International Blind Sports Association World Blind Powerlifting Championships in which 22 countries competed, I set the bench press and deadlift records for a 62-year old (Masters3 age 60 to 69) athlete.

My dream is to find a sponsor willing to invest in me for the next four years, so that I can be the first USABA blind athlete to compete as a 70+ year old Blind Powerlifting athlete.

Besides being blind since 39 years old, I am a prostate cancer survivor, and battle daily as an insulin-dependent diabetic.

Also, I am an Veteran of the US Army.
