Blind Athlete's Championship Dream

Donation protected
Jordan has an amazing opportunity available to him - a chance to realize a long-held dream. He has been selected to represent the United States of America on the USA Youth National Goalball Team.

Born with severe Retinitis Pigmentosa - a permanent and degenerative condition - and legally blind since birth, Jordan has always worked hard toward everything he does.  A senior at Westwood High School is Austin, TX, Jordan was recently accepted to the Jindahl School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Goalball is a sport designed for blind and visually impaired athletes using a special ball with small bells in it. Each team has three players on a court about the size of a volleyball court. Each side must defend their goal which stretches the entire width of the court (9 meters), while attempting to score in the team's other end.  The ball is rolled or bounced (with some limits) by the players to try to score. It is a challenging and exciting game to play and to watch.

Jordan has been selected due to the all-around excellence of his play, having been chosen a two-time All-American at the National Goalball Youth championships in 2015 and 2016 in St. Augustine, FL, and MVP of the Lone Star Classic tournament in Austin, TX in 2016.  Finally, he was just chosen to represent his country in the Youth World Championships just outside Budapest, Hungary, this summer. Wow!

Preparation for this tournament and, indeed, the tournament itself involves a lot of travel.  In April, Jordan will travel from Texas to New Jersey for a regional goalball tournament. To really hone their skills, and be the best they can be, the team members will travel to Ft. Wayne, IN in June to practice against the current USA Paralympic team. [Yes, goalball is an Olympic sport! Indeed, the dream of many, if not all, who play on the Youth National team is to be on the Paralympic team.] Finally, the Youth World Championships are in Budapest from June 30 - July 9th.

The funds being sought will pay for Jordan's travel and living expenses for the trip to Hungary.  Fundraising like this is how they are able to do it, and we are thankful to everyone who contributes. Jordan has been playing goalball for five years and this is a huge accomplishment and opportunity for him to realize his dream. Please help him, as you can, and know that all contributions are so very welcome for such a hard-working and deserving young man. Thank you!
