Blessings for Abandoned Children

My family and I are raising money to support a shelter home for abandoned and abused children in Chocontá, Colombia. "Hogar Monserrate” relies on charity funds and scarce governmental aid to operate a home for these impacted children. However, these are not enough to cover their minimum needs like food, clothes, and most importantly education to prepare them for adulthood. "Hogar Monserrate” is trying to become financially independent by starting a small dairy business including making cheese by using 15 liters of milk produced daily from 6 cows that were donated by the community.

Our goal is to raise funds to support this cause and get this small business going, from buying cheese making equipment to aid the business infrastructure.

This initiative will benefit 37 boys and 13 girls who will have guaranteed food, health, education, lodging, and psychological counseling. Also, another group of 45 children from rural areas will benefit with continued education free of cost.

"Hogar Monserrate" was founded in 1961 and since 1991 has been operated by seven nuns from a Mexican community called “Siervas del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús y de los pobres”. In their own words, “it is important for us to support these girls and boys future. We don’t only want to be there as a shelter for abandoned children, but also help them to find a way into society and improve their quality of life for a better future”.

January 2018 is the end date of our fundraiser so we can go to Colombia to purchase what is needed for the Hogar Monserrate Dairy business and launch this project.

My name is Jorge Santos, I with the support of my wife, family and friends have been doing social activities for Colombian children and families in need since 2013. However, this year we realized that it is time to start finding ways to create sustainability to our initiatives and therefore, better supported communities. Below is the Hogar Moserrate's link as well as other links from our previous fundraisers.
