The short film "Before Love Came To Kill Us" will tell a story about two strangers coming from different walks of life during 2020. Despite the circumstances of the racial protests and Black Lives Matter movement, Tristan and Cassandra eventually fall in love and experience the journey of being together while their line of differences outweigh their similarities. Tristan is an African-American man who lives in Harlem, NY with hopes of becoming a successful music producer in the music industry, whereas Cassandra is a Caucasian woman from Connecticut who aspires to be a fashion journalist. They face many challenges together, big and small, before they could finally be together for good, and this creates the themes of pain, healing, and how love conquers all.
I care about illustrating this story on screen, because we don't see a lot of drama/romance stories like this on camera, especially in a big city like New York. As a filmmaker, I want to be able to give something to an audience that is strange but is also cinematic and engaging at the same time. This film will not only entertain, but also educate story lovers through character study on how there is always a silver lining in the toughest times. Emotion will drive this film.
During my senior year in Lycoming College, I earned the Grand Jury Prize for "Best Film by a Lycoming Student" in the Pennsylvania College Student Film Festival for a short music narrative entitled "Last Time". In May 2020, I earned the Grand Jury Award for "Best Documentary Short" from the New York International Film Awards. It is without a doubt I will contribute the same level of creative thought and design to my next project, because as creators we all have a common end goal of making great content that works. I want to continue creating great films to uplift my community of creatives.
The money will be divided specifically for locations, equipment rentals, cast, crew, visual effects, coloring, etc.
Creating this film will be only the stepping stone into creating more within the filmmaking industry . We'll submit the finished product to Academy Award Qualifying festivals, as well as screening awards and IMDb qualifying film festivals. So your contribution, which will help defray the costs of creating the film, will also solidify a creative team that is just beginning its work together.
