Chennai Floods - Project Blanket

Its an initiative started by a few of my close friends and their extended circle, folks whose heart belongs to chennai, to contribute meaningfully to relief works after the devastating floods in Tamil nadu.

Why we are doing:

The floods have displaced hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life. There has been heavy damage to personal and public property and although what we make is going to be only a small contribution, hundreds of initiatives like these are needed to make a quick recovery from this catastrophe.

Although every natural disaster is a catastrophe, this one is a little close to home for all of us.

What we are doing:

We are planning to procure Blankets at cost price, and distribute them in relief centers throughout Chennai. This will personally be done by our team of friends and their circles down there. We are sourcing decent quality blankets for a cost between Rs 100 and Rs 200.

Is the end goal $10000

No, the true scale of the damage done in Tamilnadu and especially Chennai will only be known in the coming days. People are in serious need of Blankets, quality drinking water, shelter, food and in the coming days lots of medicines. We have to look at the pressing need in the coming days and assess accordingly.

What you can do:

For the folks outside of India, what we need is lots of funds. Please contribute and we promise to provide accountability for the funds and document our efforts.

Every dollar/Rupee makes a difference, so even if it’s a small amount, please go ahead and transfer it. $5 can possibly provide warmth for 2 people out there in the elements. So please go ahead and contribute.

I currently reside in Brisbane. I am originally from Chennai, India where the heavy rains and floods have ravished the city.

3. Our relationship to the parties we're raising funds for
A group of common friends from Chennai, but living elsewhere want to raise funds to pass onto a registered charity account in Chennai.

4. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)
We will pass the funds onto a registered charity account in Chennai. We are working out the details to ensure 100% of the funds sources go directly to the impacted parties. Our initial target to provide blankets for the impacted people and then slowly help them come back to their normal lives by providing them basic necessities like food, water and medicine.

5. How do we intend to get the funds to those in need?
100% of the funds will be used to provide the needed support to impacted people. There will not be any middleman costs involved. We will be ensuring each and every spending we do is billed and reported back to the people who have donated.

To support complete transparency in the money we are collecting and spending we have created a facebook page where we will be providing periodic updates of the activities we will be carrying out (
