Help These Twins Get A Handicapped Van

Donation protected

Amy is an amazing single mom who is raising 14-year-old twin boys that were born with Cerebral Palsy. She had the boys 4 months premature at the age of 16 when most of us were enjoying the freedoms of being a teenager. Becoming a mom at an early age was hard enough, let alone being faced with the fact her children were handicapped. She took on the challenge and dedicated her life to Blake and Trey. As the boys have grown, Amy has focused on structuring an environment that helps the boys experience normal life, though this has not been free of obstacles. Multiple surgeries, weekly therapy appointments and many sleepless nights stressing over personal challenges, Amy continues to push forward while maintaining a positive attitude for her boys.

In addition to taking care of the boys, Amy also works as an assistant to physical therapists, while attending college full-time. While it appears Amy has it under control, time has a funny way of creating additional challenges. With reaching their teenage years, it has become very apparent that the next set of struggles involves transportation. Their current van can no longer accommodate their needs. Blake can get around with a walker on his own and manage to get into the van and his seat on his own (with a little extra arm muscle and Kiwi by his side), but Trey is confined in a wheel chair and has grown to the point of where Amy struggles to lift him in and out of their current van. On top of the strain on Amy's body, this does not bode well for Trey and his body, having to stretch and position each time he is taken in and out of his wheel chair to his car seat. Besides the weight of Trey, there is the weight of such a complex wheel chair lifting it in and out of the back of the vehicle at every stop.

We can not forget the incredible smart and beautiful Kiwi. Kiwi is an amazing service dog from CCI. Kiwi will not leave either of these boys side! Kiwi wedges herself between the back of the front seats to be under the boys in their regular van seats so they both know she is there at all times. Lets give this girl some room and comfort on these rides!

This effort and push for this goal is something Amy would never do on her own, and has never asked for or expected any hand outs for anything during this journey called life. She struggles with accepting any sort of help just from her close circle of friends and family.

We are hoping in today's age of social media we can share this story of one incredible woman, with two amazing boys who can use a small gift that would make every day life so much easier.

Please join in this effort. No donation is too small. If you can not donate please help spread the word by sharing this story on any social media outlet. We are hoping to have Blake do a twitter and facebook takeover this weekend and we will keep you updated throughout this effort.
