Social and cultural inclusion in local communities – promotion and dissemination of an alternative to the closed institutions for persons with disabilities in Russia


What is needed?

To be able to achieve changes, Blagoe Delo needs to have additional space.
An appropriate building we found very close around; like 3 minutes walking from our main building!
This building is located on the street Karl Marx 24 in the village VerghNeyvinski.
Good aspects of this building are the location, close to the big square plot of 900m2 (with an option of additional buildings) and the space inside the building (around 230 m2 in a square form).


Our goal is to use this building in 3 different ways:

· As a training center; with the main focus on ‘closed institutes ‘ in the Sverdlovsk region.

· A daily workplace for people with a disability (gardening, maintenance, coffee corner, etc)

· Art workshops for all people & open to the society (this includes painting, ceramics, mosaics, theater and classic music concerts).



What is left?

We need to renovate the building in a way that it makes it ‘multipurpose’ in use, with organic and artistic details.
At first a technical renovation plan has to be made according the pending rules.
When this plan is approved by the official governmental institutes, the renovation of the followings aspects will be done:

· Windows and doors

· Electricity

· Ventilations systems

· Heating systems

· Safety & firing protection

· Toilets

· Kitchen

· Outside renovation of the walls

For this we now want to raise money to help this wonderfull project!

157,000 people with various and complex disabilities live today under very unworthy conditions in the 530 closed neuro-psychological boarding homes (centralized institutions) in Russia.
A movement is underway to change this situation.
Several actionists - individuals and organizations in Russia - have, over the past year, informed the public of the situation to push for necessary measures and alternative ways of caring and living.

Blagoe Delo is one of these players and is today a driving force in the work for planning and implementing alternatives to the large centralized institutions in Russia.
Over the years, the organization has developed as a realistic alternative to the institutions, and as a model for meaningful inclusion in the local community.
Blagoe Delo combines small living communities with work and habilitation for 50 disabled adult people, in 7 craft workshops, in synergy with developing and performing various artistic productions/performances - theater, music, dance.

The main focus of the organization is to change attitudes towards persons with disabilities by means of demonstrating their potential (extrability) and enact influence on social reforms, on the regional and federal level.
