Blackout Scholarships for Botswana

Molopo River Junior Secondary School (CJSS) in my home village of Phitshane Molopo is a boarding school providing home and education to a significant number of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Given differences in cost of living, school fees for an entire year are only £20. However, this fee is an insurmountable barrier to some families. Help me raise funds for bright, motivated students in financial need. Every contribution counts, whatever the amount. Your help would really be appreciated.

Donors will be acknowledged and have their names listed on a dedicated page in Blackout. Blackout is a website-based platform set up to make education more accessible to African youth through initiatives such as this one.

THE SCHOLARSHIP

The Blackout Scholarship was officially launched on 31 January 2022 by Peggy Serame (on behalf of Blackout Africa). On the day, 4 motivated students were awarded the full scholarship comprising of payment of tuition fees, stationery and mentorship. 

Because of how great the applications were, Blackout Africa collaborated with Peggy Serame and the private sector to provide partial scholarships (tuition fee coverage only) to the rest of the 10 finalists.

SCHOLARSHIP TERMS

The candidates for the scholarship are assessed on the basis of academic success, financial need, and their interest in leadership and service. Financial aid includes covering tuition fees of recipients for a year. The scholarship also aims to provide financial assistance to recipients so that they can purchase school stationery. Mentoring will include termly one-on-one sessions with one of several possible mentors selected based off the recipient's interests.
