WHO ARE WE
Welcome! We are Hailey Henderson (actor/playwright) and Kristie Post Wallace (director/filmmaker), recent graduates of the University of Washington School of Drama MFA program. Like many artists, our work was severely impacted by the pandemic and we are ready to create and share our work again! Almost a year ago during lockdown, Hailey wrote and performed her first version of her one woman show and presented it via Zoom to critical and audience acclaim. This year, Hailey is taking the latest version of her play on the road for a COVID-safe porch tour. Kristie will be joining the tour to make a documentary about the performance and the audience's reaction to it. As powerful women artists, we deeply appreciate your support!

THE PLAY AND TOUR
This autobiographical solo play by Hailey Henderson explores the destructive nature of sexual and emotional abuse and the cost of blending in to survive. Henderson embodies her mother, her ex-boyfriend, her abuser and herself in a funny, edgy, radical reclaiming of her true story. This summer, Blackout is going on tour for a series of intimate Porch Performances, hosted in private residences (and a few theatres too!) in all the cities Henderson has called “home.” Blackout: A One-Woman Show is a journey out of hiding and into the light. This performance is directed by the nationally acclaimed director, Valerie Curtis-Newton.

THE DOCUMENTARY
When an abuse survivor reclaims her power, she sets out on a porch tour of her solo show intersecting her storytelling with the audience’s visceral reaction. This documentary focuses on the intimate performance and the audience’s response to the show through watching the performance and post-performance interviews about their reaction. The result is an entwining story of the connective, community-building nature of theatre.
WHAT YOUR DONATION WILL COVER
- TRAVEL EXPENSES: food, accommodations, and gas for the artists. This is where the majority of the funding will go.
- EQUIPMENT FOR THE PERFORMANCE: because of the time length of the filming, a body mic purchase is far cheaper than renting one. Around $100.
