Since the declaration of the pandemic, Afiwi Groove school like many other not-for-profit organizations, has worked steadily to ensure the continued delivery of program and services that not only support the health and well-being of the families that participate in Afiwi Groove School, but the community at large.
Beyond the continued devastation Covid-19 has caused globally, we also know first- hand that the requirements that were put in place to ensure our safety, have also left many feeling isolated and even worse yet, unemployed. Feelings of stress and anxiety continue to rise, and sadly this is coupled with the recent acts of violence in the United States and the ongoing anti-black racism that continues to plague the Black Community.
As an organization that seeks to create spaces for children, youth and families of the African Diaspora, perhaps more so now than ever are we seeking your support. Recognizing the power of African art as a form of healing, connection, expression and social change, Afiwi Groove School, established in 2013, is a non-for-profit organization based in the Durham Region. We are an award-winning performing arts program whose mission is to inspire, empower, and educate children through African arts and culture. Our vision is to create a new generation of leaders who will make a difference in our communities.
We are committed to empowering the youth in the Black Community and ensuring that they gain a continued sense of pride in who they are, feel connected to each other and their history.
We humbly ask you to help us continue our work through the delivery of online programming for kids in the Durham Region, across Canada, and around the world. We are asking for donations to help keep our programs accessible to those who desperately need them.
Please do what you can to help youth who are in dire need of access to dancing, drumming, and other culturally-based programming.
All funds will be donated to the Groove Kidz Bursary Program. Classes resume this September and we want to assist parents who have lost jobs ensure that their kids still can continue to dance and drum.
$30 will provide a youth access to 2 dance or drum classes
$60 will provide a youth access to 4 dance or drum classes
$100 will provide a youth access to 8 dance or drum classes
