Black Tigers Football Lift-A-Thon

Our Story:
Please join us as we begin a new era of Cuyahoga Falls High School Black Tiger Football in 2017.  We want to reach back into the rich tradition of our community and our high school football program.  Our young men will begin to build on that tradition and create new memories and new history that will make the entire community proud.

Our Fundraiser
Each year, we hold our annual Lift-a-Thon fundraiser where we ask you, our athletes' families and friends, to help contribute to the growth of our program and improve the experiences that our young men have.

The fundraiser begins June 28th, and we would like to have your donations submitted by Sunday July 23.

This year, 30% of the total amount of donated money will go to reducing the Pay-to-Play fees of all of our football players.  The rest of the donations will fund a variety of small facility upgrades and equipment upgrades for players and for our practices.

Weightlifting, Football, and "What's a Lift-a-Thon"?
In football, our season always begins in December, eight months before we take the field for two-a-day practices in August.  In the weight room, our young men begin to discover the true athletes inside themselves.  They learn discipline as they balance school work and extra-curricular committments with improving themselves as football players.  They learn to push themselves through muscle soreness and periods where they might feel tired.  They learn proper technique in order to become explosive athletes who work with and for each other.

The fundraiser is focused on the "Max-Out" or "Testing" phase of our weight lifting cycle.  Approximately 4 times each offseason, we test our athletes in their performance of 4 olympic-style lifts and several running and jumping exercises in order to see how they have developed and grown since December.  Their goal is to lift as much weight with sound fundamentals and proper technique as they can in each of the 4 lifts.  For the safety of our young men, we ask them to lift as much weight as they can a minimum of 3 times.  Then, we use an industry-standard formula to convert that lift into a "1-Rep Max Lift."  This gives the student athlete a measure of their growth and serves as a baseline for their next cycle of lifting.

How You Can Help:

We are Testing on July 17th and 18th, 2 weeks before two-a-day practices begin.  In an effort to enhance the experiences of our athletes, we invite you to make a donation in the name of the player who invited you to this fundraiser.  You may donate a pre-set amount of money, OR you may pledge a "per-pound" amount for the athlete who invited you.   So, you can donate now and choose any amount you want.  Or, you can make a commitment to pay a nickel, a dime, quarter, or dollar per pound that your player is going to lift (and complete your donation between the 18th and 23rd).  We have chosen the Bench Press as the lift that we will feature for the fundraiser this year.  So, if you commit to a dime per pound, and "Andy" has a 1-Rep Max Calculation of 135 Pounds, we would ask you to  donate $13.50.  Speak with the athlete who invited you to get an idea of what their goal will be for his Max Lift.  Through the Spring, our Bench Press Maxes ranged from about 80 pounds all the way up to 315 pounds.  Again, your focus should be on the young man who invited you to this fundraiser.

Upping the Ante:

We would like to invite each and every one of you to the Cuyahoga Falls Weight Room to come watch the max lifting efforts on Tuesday July 18th from 6:00 -8:00 PM so that you can see your young men achieve their personal bests.  We will be testing their 40 yard dash, their deadlift, and the money lift - the Bench Press.  Come join us, see some of the new additions to the weight room, and enjoy a hot dog!
