Black Swan Lake Bundall campaign

As part of Wildlife QLD Gold Coast & Hinterland branch, our community group 'Save Black Swan Lake Bundall' is raising funds to have merchandise stock for market stalls and to be able to purchase supplies for our upcoming BBQ fundraisers.
Black Swan Lake Bundall is public land located behind Gold Coast Turf Club. The 2.75 hectare freshwater lake is home to 49+ bird species as well as lizards, turtles, frogs, etc.
In 2014, Gold Coast City Council gave permission for it to be filled for a carpark, with no development application. The local residents stopped the trucks who were about to fill it, despite the presence of nesting swans.
In 2015, with widespread community support, Gold Coast City Council voted to save it, however in November 2016, it was voted to be filled in, after a debate led by Councillor Baildon.
Despite recent media attention and the tireless work and campaigning, on 13th February 2018, Gold Coast Turf Club commenced filling in t
he lake. A combination of bad weather, an incorrect Development Application and the Commonwealth Games has so far halted the work.
We remain committed to the campaign and will present our petiton with 38,000+ signatures to Deputy Mayor Donna Gates at the next Council Meeting.
