Black Queer Student Needs 2 Survive

Hi my name is Reya D****, I’m a 21 year old Black lesbian, aspiring screenwriter and NYU student. I recently fled my mother and step fathers home in New Jersey after experiencing emotional abuse and an overall toxic home environment that only got worse during the COVID epidemic. I am lucky enough to have some dear dear friends in NYC who have guaranteed housing for me at their place until the end of july, but after that I fear I will become homeless as my mother has made it clear that by leaving her house, I am effectively on my own and that my phone plan and loan support for my next semester at NYU will be stripped away from me for standing up for myself. I left the house with almost no clothes or resources and am, frankly, desperate at this point for any help because everything I own now fits inside my school backpack. As a queer black woman, I know that the cards are stacked against me, and that if I do not raise the money I need for my own housing/food/transportation/school soon, I will likely have to resort to returning back to their home instead of securing the safe space I so desperately need during these uncertain times. And moreover, with my college degree at risk now, I feel I have no choice but to make my situation as transparent as I can. I am homeless, I have no clothes and little money for food, and no loan support for my final two semesters at school. I am truly begging you, please help/share this wherever you can as I truly have no other options at this point. I live in one of the most expensive states in the country and rent can be anywhere from 1500-3000$ for a small studio apartment. I do not want to move out of my city because I really need the emotional support of my chosen family/friends and hope to finish my bachelors degree this winter. I am hoping to raise funds for a year’s worth of housing, moving expenses, living expenses i.e. food, toiletries, health care, phone plan. Also, I will be looking for job openings and queer NYC sublets anywhere I can so please reach out with any information.



With stable housing of my own I will begin applying for writing fellowships and seek employment in the TV writing world (while also finishing school if possible) Thank you kindly for reading and helping me.

I have gone and changed the profile picture to obscure my identity and shield myself from cyberstalking and unnecessary attacks. Again, thanks to you I was able to graduate NYU and am now fully employed in the industry of my passion. Thank thank thank you.
