I grew up in an extremely large family-- there were 7 kids, to be exact. My parents raised all of us children well, and we were raised in a middle to upper class town, however "extra" money was just not a thing. With that many kids comes expenses beyond what I could even imagine. We did not have individual college funds, or money that could be dipped into for us to pursue our dreams, but we did have access to education and resources, which has been tremendous to me as a young entrepreneur myself. That being said, each and every day I consider myself privileged. I am lucky enough to have grown up with access to free tutoring and a stellar education in Cheshire, CT and continue on to college to study business. It afforded me opportunities I believe I would not have had access to, had I been less fortunate.
I have always had a strong urge to see where I could fit in to help uplift and encourage other black entrepreneurs who haven't had the support system that I have had, to believe in themselves and make their dreams a reality. A large part of that challenge is understanding what free resources are available to help you get started, as well as having access to funds to get your business rolling. That said, I created this fund to donate 100% of the proceeds to a young scholar in the state of Connecticut! I want to encourage economic diversity, as well as provide tools and resources to those who may have not had the privilege I was afforded. I want young black scholars to understand that they TOO can be an entrepreneur, and make their dreams come true.
Each year I plan to put together a fund in which young entrepreneurs can apply to yearly, in hopes of being able to help bring their business ideas to fruition. They can apply through the website and at the end of the year, three entrepreneur will be picked to receive an award to be used toward schooling and / or funding their ideas.
Please help me in supporting the future of young black entrepreneurs in the state of Connecticut. Together, we can change someones life and make a difference.
The scholarship structure will be as follows:
1st place: $3,000
2nd place: $2,000
3rd place: $1,000
