Help fund "Black Lives Matter" Mural in Key West
We're petitioning the city to approve a community funded BLM mural on a prominent road in Key West! Help us fund a piece of art that shows our solidarity with the Black Community.
Every little bit counts, so please help us to bring awareness to this very important cause by (1) making a donation and (2) sharing this petition and fundraiser with your network.
We plan to bring this issue up at the next City Commissioners meeting on July 21st! It would be amazing to tell them that we already have the community support and funds raised to make this a reality!
Why we need this...
While we aspire towards One Human Family, most members of the Black community in the Keys will tell you that we still have a long way to go. We believe that the Keys could be one of the nation's leaders in combating racism, especially if we can get Key West and Monroe County officials to pledge their support.
What will happen with the funds...
If the city approves the mural, your donation will go directly to buying paint and supplies for our initial installation and ongoing maintenance and repair.
If we for some reason are unable to get the mural approved, we'll use your donation for another local community project, right here in Key West, such as founding an official BLM chapter, creating an annual Juneteenth celebration, or organizing another event or art to unite our community.
Please give as much as you are able, even a $5 donation could be the tipping point that makes this mural possible.
Who is behind this proposal...
We're the same team that brought you the Key West believes BLM facebook page , the Juneteenth Freedom March and the Fourth Freedom March! MJ Johnson , EJ Reckers, and Veronica Stafford.
We're looking for more artists and volunteers, for this and other projects! So, please reach out to us if you'd like to get involved, send us a message!
Not sure you believe in the Black Lives Matter movement?
This isn't about politics - right or left. This isn't about backing one of the many of BLM non-profits and what they believe. This is about life and death.
Speaking out against white supremacy and race-based violence does NOT make you anti-white, anti-police, right or left. It makes you pro justice., pro Black life , pro accountability, and pro racial equality. Caring about the life of another isn't political. It's human.
