What is York Wellness
YW is a co-working wellness space in Newmarket that opened in late-2019 (super great timing, we know!).The goal is to disrupt the mold of 'clinics' and make psychotherapy & wellness space more accessible to clinicians and to the community. Every clinician in the space is their own, individual practitioner. There is no clinical hierarchy.
As a co-working space, we also commit to sharing costs & resources so that we can gain access to tools like social media, and training opportunities that wouldn't otherwise be available to us as individuals.
Who is running this fund?
Black Clinicians who operate from this co-working space have gathered to lead and define this initiative. The goal is to bring free mental health & wellness support to York Region's Black communities.
As a space, we are located in Newmarket, where access to service is low, and waitlists are often 6months+. We need to do better.
What will the money raised provide to the Black community?
Psychotherapy & wellness services for Black clients in York Region at 0 cost (i.e. individual therapy, family therapy, group support, workshops).
100% of services will be delivered by Black clinicians.
Who will have access to the fund and define how it evolves?
Only the Black-clinicians who developed this fund will have access.
As a group, we are open to feedback and to collaborating with other Black clinicians in the community, or Black clinicians who would like to join our co-working space.
If you're considering donating - thank you. If you can't right now, thank you too. We all have different capacity to support and we see you; thank you for being here and reading our campaign.
Black Lives Matter. It's time to go beyond being 'not-racist' and actively dismantle systems of oppression by acknowledging implicit bias, reflecting on privilege and committing to a continuous process of relearning and self-education. It's time to take action and participate in being actively anti-racist.
"It is insufficient to only tell your children that racism and racists are bad...our children don't need to hear words from us without action."
