#Black Histories 24/7!#
Arca - Afrikanisches Bildungszentrum (Arca – Education Center), a non-profit association based in Hamburg, Germany, https://arca-ev.de/ is behind the project. We are a group of Black women. We work on a voluntary basis and want to create a new great place for political education, reflections, living together in solidarity, socializing and interaction.
"Fasiathek" Fasia Jansen Institution for Education, Dialogue and Empowerment
Our Fasiathek is named after Fasia Jansen who was a singer and political activist. She was a relative of Hans-Jürgen Massaquoi who was the managing editor of the Ebony magazine in the USA. Both were born in Hamburg, Germany and never got to know from each other. Such information is still ignored in German society and we want to change that.
We want to tell our own history, using research in finding our historical truth. We can tell our own history to our own people and others better than anyone else. On behalf of this belief we have decided to establish an institution that includes a Black Archive, Black Arts, Black writers Library and Media center. We want to tell stories from our perspectives and contribute to living in a diverse and open society.
We have found a large space at the fux cooperative, a self-managed centre for culture, education, production and neighbourly life, with around 270 people - the former Viktoria barracks - for our project. This room is to be reconstructed and furnished into four rooms including kitchen, office and storage.
We want to create this space to learn about all these histories from the past and the present so that we can create a new future to empower, to educate, to preserve our diversity and show the beauty of African People and their Diaspora. The project is attractive to all Hamburg residents, sympathisers and tourists from near and far. It serves people who already have an interest in African, Afro-diasporic and Afro-German literature and media, as well as those who lacked access and would like to engage with these groups of authors and media for the first time.
We need your help to create this space till May 2021. We assume that there are people who welcome our project, sympathise with us and show solidarity. Since the motto of the "Fasiathek" is "Let subjects speak and Black Histories 24/7", only Black personalities and their perspectives will have to be heard in all the offerings. All interested people learn from the experiences and knowledge of the diaspora and the African continent. This provides a change of perspective. The "Fasiathek" will be the first address for Black media and Black media makers in Hamburg. You are also cordially invited to attend the opening in June 2021 or just pass by whenever you can!
Left side of the space!
We have a large space at the fux cooperative, which will be turned into four rooms. Please support us with a donation of any amount. Your donation will go 100 per cent to the rebuilding and furnishing of the Fasiathek. It will help us to divide up the space, buy shelving, carpet, chairs, tables, books, office equipment, printer/fax/scan/copier, hole puncher, laptops, media and other things so that our place is well equipped by the time we open.
