Black Hills Center for American Indian Health

Want to join us in our efforts to improve the health of American Indian peoples, Tribes and communities? We're raising money to benefit the Black Hills Center for American Indian Health, Inc. We've existed for 19 years since our inception without any charitable fundraising; we have been supported nearly solely on the basis of our peer-reviewed, competitive grant writing with the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control  and Prevention, and multiple state agencies and private foundations.

Since 2001, we have successfully received more than $28 million through 50 peer-reviewed grants and contracts. More than $6 million has been dispersed directly into the Tribal nations we've partnered with, through subcontracts, hiring of 40-50 tribal members to work on our research projects, capacity-building efforts, and generous compensation for our greater than 10,000 tribal research participants. We even wrote a  $1 million research grant for one Northern Plains Tribe who, when they were awarded it, became only the second Tribe on the Northern Plains to ever be the direct recipient of a National Institutes of Health grant.   

If the COVID-19 pandemic situation has made anything clear, it is that we need to put in place both an emergency operating reserves fund and, ultimately, an endowment to ensure our vital efforts continue on behalf of the Tribal peoples, Tribes and communities we serve.
