<div>Since our establishment, we have organized and curated public talks, exhibitions, workshops, performances, publications, and a podcast series, all to reimagine the possibilities and capacities of a contemporary archive. In addition, we have collected submissions to our archive through our online platform and in person during our community gatherings throughout Sweden.

<li>Everybody from our elders to our youngest have been valued and important parts of our community.

<li>Our events have been critical spaces for cultural and knowledge production and dissemination.

<li>Our spaces are open and inclusive to everybody interested.

<li>We have collaborated with the Museum of Modern Art in Malmö, Skånes Konstförening, Blå Stället, SouthNord, Malmö Konsthall, Whose Museum, Garaget Library, ABF and many more.

<div>We have gotten to know and love our community as diverse, inclusive, curious, and eager to gather and participate in public and cultural life, not only here in Malmö but also in the rest of Sweden. Experiencing this has encouraged us to dream of one day having our own space, where we continue to build our archive and provide space for community, exchange, listening, learning, nourishment, experimentation, cultural production, and well-being. Finally, we have the opportunity to make that dream come true.

<div>This spring we were contacted with an offer to take over what previously was a gallery and event space in the heart of Malmö. The previous owner felt that it was time for her to move on to new things and she considered us the right type of organization to take over. She had put a lot of love and effort into the space and was confident we would continue in that spirit. We gladly accepted the offer.

<div>Building a physical space is an important next step for us, here are the reasons why:

<li>Currently, in Sweden, there are limited permanent public and cultural spaces by and for Black cultural production, centring Afro-Swedish and Black diasporic experiences and perspectives. Enabling meetings across identities, generations, and cultures is something that we consider essential not only for our Afro-Swedish community but for Swedish public and cultural life overall.
</li>
<li>Having our own public space gives us the agency and autonomy to facilitate more events regularly without solely relying on other institutions to open their doors to us. Our own space will be down the line, a public cultural space that is open, inclusive, and welcoming.
</li>
<li>We need a physical space to build our reference library and physical archive. These are essential and valuable resources for the community, artists, researchers, activists, and many more.

<div>Receiving operational funds as a cultural institution in Sweden to cover rent and personal costs is incredibly challenging. To have a physical space increases our chances of securing operational funds as it signals plans of longevity and continuity.
</div>

</div>
<div>With this new space, we have sent in applications for operational funds. We will receive a decision in January 2025 and up until then we need to gather resources from elsewhere. As a non-profit we do not have funds tucked away and a large part of our work is voluntary with support from our community. So, this is a very sincere and genuine request from our side and we rely on and hope for your support to make this work.

<div>Vi har lärt känna och älska vårt community som mångsidigt, inkluderande, nyfiket och glada över att samlas och delta i det offentliga och kulturella livet, inte bara här i Malmö utan också i resten av Sverige. Att uppleva detta har uppmuntrat oss att drömma om att en dag ha en egen lokal, där vi kan fortsätta att bygga vårt arkiv och ge utrymme för gemenskap, utbyten, lyssnande, lärande, experiment, kulturproduktion och välmående. Nu har vi äntligen möjlighet att förverkliga den drömmen.

<div>I våras blev vi kontaktade med ett erbjudande om att ta över det som tidigare var ett galleri och eventlokal i hjärtat av Malmö. Den tidigare ägaren kände att det var dags för henne att gå vidare till nya saker och hon tyckte att vi är rätt typ av organisation att ta över. Hon hade lagt ner mycket kärlek och arbete i lokalen och var övertygad om att vi skulle fortsätta i den andan. Vi accepterade med glädje erbjudandet.

<div>Att bygga ett fysiskt utrymme är ett viktigt nästa steg för oss, här är anledningarna till varför:

<li>I Sverige finns det för närvarande ett begränsat antal permanenta offentliga och kulturella rum av och för svart kulturproduktion, med fokus på afrosvenska och svarta diasporiska erfarenheter och perspektiv. Att möjliggöra möten mellan olika identiteter, generationer och kulturer är något som vi anser vara viktigt inte bara för det afrosvenska communityt utan även för det svenska offentliga och kulturella livet i stort.
</li>
<li>Att ha vårt eget offentliga rum ger oss handlingsutrymme och autonomi att regelbundet anordna fler evenemang utan att enbart förlita oss på att andra institutioner ska öppna sina dörrar för oss. Vårt eget utrymme kommer i förlängningen att bli ett offentligt kulturellt utrymme som är öppet, inkluderande och välkomnande.
</li>
<li>Vi behöver ett fysiskt utrymme för att bygga upp vårt referensbibliotek och fysiska arkiv. Dessa är viktiga och värdefulla resurser för samhället, konstnärer, forskare, aktivister och många fler.

<div>Att få verksamhetsstöd som kulturinstitution för att täcka hyra och övriga verksamhetskostnader är svårt i Sverige. Att ha en fysiskt lokal ökar våra chanser att säkra verksamhetsstöd eftersom det signalerar planer på långsiktighet och kontinuitet.

<div>Vi har skickat in ansökningar om verksamhetsstöd och kommer att få ett beslut i januari 2025 och fram till dess måste vi samla in resurser från annat håll. Som ideell förening har vi inga undangömda medel och en stor del av vårt arbete är frivilligt med stöd från vår community. Så detta är en uppriktig och genuin förfrågan från vår sida och vi förlitar oss på och hoppas på ert stöd för att få detta att fungera.
