Recently the Johnson family moved to Winona, MN from Clearwater, MN due Brian's Job change. They were excited to start this new chapter in their lives. The boys were adjusting great in their new schools and Brian's job was everything they dreamed it would be. March came and COVID became a reality. Luckily Hanna works remotely for State Farm allowing the transition from in person school to distant learning as smooth as it could possibly be. They found themselves feeling very thankful and optimistic. They were ok and in this crazy world they were going to make it work.
Little did they know what was around the corner…?
Their youngest Wyatt (5) started limping which lead to multiple doctor appointments with little to no answers. A mother’s instinct lead them to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI where they got the news no parent should ever have to hear. It was Leukemia. Everything seemed to move so fast from there. And it’s still going. Although we are very grateful that he is responding well to treatment, it hasn’t been an easy journey. They have overcome numerous complications from all chemotherapies needed in his recovery. Including blood clots in his brain, losing the ability to walk, needing multiple MRI’s and CT’s and countless nights in the hospital.
They are in the beginning stages of one of the toughest phases of treatment called delayed intensification. This round will bring its own set of challenges and possibly hospital stays. While most of us cheer Wyatt on from afar, his mom and dad have been able to be by his side through every step of his journey. We’d like your help to keep that support system in place. Each treatment, un-expected clinic run, and hospital stay means more un-paid time away from work for Brian and Hanna. The money raised will go to the Johnson family to help with monthly expenses and allow them to spend as much time as possible with Wyatt.
