Help us to help people. Mostly battered women, children and survivors of interfamilial violence.
Centro Integra de la Familia (CIF) needed an expensive roof. CIF is a unique counseling center in Quito, Ecuador. We use Systems Theory counseling methods, which help not just the person in front of us but the whole family. This method acknowledges that the person is not an island but part of a bigger system and so shows them how by changing themselves, they can improve not just their life but the whole system. As they learn how to be healthy they model healthy behavior to the whole family.
CIF does this in multiple ways. We provide individual/family counseling, training sessions for organizations, mediation services, publishing and certification & training for Master Degree level education.
We have been one of the major sources of impact to reduce interfamilial violence, a major problem in Quito, Ecuador. CIF, recognized by the city and people from around the globe for its contribution, is housed in a historic building that needed a new roof last year. As a counseling center that subsidizes instead of turning away clients with a need and a non-profit this has taxed our finances.
We are faced with a conundrum: as always, the financial situation of many of the people who request help remains precarious. It is our tradition to subsidize, rather than to deny services, which we continue as part of our ministries culture. What has changed is the financial situation we face in paying for the much needed new roof. The city covered 25% of the cost, and we now have a 10 year loan to be repaid at $6500 annually. For our budget, this is a huge challenge, therefore we are looking to reduce the amount of the outstanding debt.

WHAT DO OUR CLIENTS SAY ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE
A woman who had been raped: My life has changed. Now I know I am a person worthy of my own respect and that of others.

Another child: That’s a relief. Now I know I’m not stupid.
An adolescent who took part in a workshop: Now I understand what violence is, and I promise not to have any part of it.
