BJ's Kidneys SUCK!!

As many of you know BJ has been in kidney failure for a while now. His kidney function has dropped from 20% function in April to 11% function this month (September). Dialysis is usually started when kidney function is at 10% or below but his doctor has decided we need to go ahead and start the process since it is dropping so rapidly. He will meet with the surgeon on Sept. 20,2017 to schedule the surgery to place the PD cathether.  Once it is placed we will have to wait for the catheter site to heal before moving forward. Once healed we will begin the  training for at home APD (Automated Peritoneal Dialysis). Once trained, APD is done over night 7 days a week. After dialysis has begun we will have to meet with the doctor once a month to monitor everything.  This will continue until he is matched with a donor kidney. 

He has been referred to Emory to be evaluted for a transplant and once that is done we will have more information if you would like to be tested to be a donor.
