A Home for Sean and Adam

Donation protected
It was 6.5 years ago that our son, Sean, was born.  We were thrilled to be parents!!! At 4 months old, it was apparent there was something different with Sean; he was diagnosed with a vision disorder, Nystagmus and development stalled.  At 8  months he had over 20 seizures during a 24 hour period.  At 10  months old, we discovered that Sean would be a big brother.  We again welcomed the news of a new life to cherish.  Amidst doctors appointments and therapy for Sean, we welcomed Adam.  Still with no diagnosis for Sean's delays and health concerns, we noticed Adam's development stall at 8 mos old. Again, we waited patiently through doctor's appointments and therapy visits where progress was few and far between.  Both boys leraned to walk at 3 yrs of age.  It was, and still is, an amazing feat to observe, first hand, when Sean and Adam meet a developmental milestone. Last spring the boys were diagnosed witha genetic form of intellectual disability called EIEE (Early Infantile Epileptic Encephalopathy).  We do not know what this diagnosis means; there are only 6 other recorded cases. This past spring the boys were diagnosed with Autism.  They have trouble interacting with peers, remain nonverbal and experience mild (Adam) to severe (Sean) sensory processing disorder. What the future holds is uncertain.  What we do know is that the two floor condominium we started our family in is not ideal anymore with the boys' walking disabilities (not to mention, I will be needing a knee replacement in the not so distant future).  In addition, it is impossible for the boys to play outside as a typical child would, as wandering and safety is an issue.  They must be closely monitored at all times (nearly impossible with a one parent to two child ratio).  We are hoping to get out of our condo and into a one level single family so that we can have a fenced in yard and watch our boys flourish as any parent would want for their child.  We just need help with closing costs. The boys' medical issues have left us a primarily one income household.  I work part time so I can be abvailable to the boys if they need me until their father gets home from work.  Life with Sean and Adam has not been easy; but loving them has!  My husband, Brian, and I have always hoped that by being good people that good will come back to us. Thank you for your kindness in considering us.
