Badwater Run for Safer Streets

This summer, I am running the Badwater 135 mile Ultramarathon through Death Valley. This run is billed as the WORLD'S TOUGHEST footrace and takes place in July where temperatures peak at over 120 degrees Fahrenheit! This will be my 15th Badwater run through one of the harshest environments in the entire world. 

I am running to support and bring awareness to Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), a non-profit whose mission is aiming to improve the quality of life for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers alike by working to reduce traffic-caused injuries and fatalities. SAFE addresses this problem in a holistic fashion through direct education, broad awareness campaigns, partnerships, community outreach, policy and legislation, support for those impacted.

Every year, 40,000 people are killed nationwide as a result of traffic collisions and hundreds of thousands more severely injured. The most affected population is children. Traffic collisions are the #1 killer of children in Los Angeles County, and this is almost 100% preventable! The safety of our kids should be TOP priority. 

SAFE is currently sponsoring a bill (SB 735) that is working to increase safety in school zones by implementing speed safety cameras. As a school crossing guard, I have saved numerous children from so many reckless drivers who run stoplights or speed through a school crossing. SB 735 and the other safety and awareness campaigns ran by SAFE are essential to make safer streets for all road users, including all of you! For more information on SB 735, click here.
