Go Fund Me Page

My name is Harry Crabb, writing on behalf of the non-profit Birmingham Baseball Club and its newly rebranded team, the Birmingham Metalheads.

The reason this endeavor means so much to me is due to baseball being such a lifeline for me personally. This is due to a chronic illness that I was diagnosed with about 6 years ago, leaving me unable to play more intense sports such as football, basketball, and rugby. During this time, I was left without a means to stay fit, nor socialize through sports as I had always done. It is not a stretch to say that baseball saved me from serious depression at this time, as it introduced me to some utterly amazing people and an equally amazing sport. That is why I am hoping to help out the team by writing this appeal to the wider community.

The team is hoping to raise some money to develop the facilities at our home field, located at the Marston Green Cricket Club. Unfortunately, the facilities we currently use have fallen into disrepair, as a result of vandalism and general wear, and are therefore in dire need of repair and renovation.

The reason I am creating a ‘Go Fund Me’ page for this project is that there would be no way to achieve our ambitions without funding from the kind donations from the public. This is due to baseball being such a niche sport in the United Kingdom, requiring a substantial expenditure to build and maintain a proper baseball diamond and backstop to play.

Luckily for our club, there is the potential of receiving some match funding in this endeavor, as we are applying through the BSUK for a facilities fund grant, which we hope to gain in order to match the funding we ourselves raise through your amazing donations, to help us reach our goal of building a baseball diamond that all of Birmingham can be proud of, and all of the midlands and the greater community of baseball fans and players can benefit from.

Our current aims are to renovate the club’s backstop, diamond, and dugouts, as well as install vandalism deterrents, build a new storage area to safely store our club’s equipment, and a combined bullpen and batting cage area. (See images at the end of this letter.)

We believe that by building these new facilities, we will be able to increase the longevity of the club’s overall facilities and equipment, as well as reduce the risk of theft and vandalism, and will enable a greater diversity of training to take place simultaneously at our field.

By improving our club’s facilities, we hope we can attract more people of all ages, abilities, genders, cultures, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds into trying out this amazing sport. These facilities will provide our players and the wider baseball community with a safe setting and professional environment to learn to play, as well as continue to aid in their development for years to come.

By donating, you will be helping to transform our field into the central hub of baseball throughout the midlands, as well as the West Midlands Baseball League, and perhaps even the whole of the UK.

I realize money is sure to be tight for everyone right now, after such a difficult and turbulent year. Anything that you could spare would be hugely appreciated, by our club and the wider baseball community who will come to play at our field. Even a small donation and a share on social media would go a long way to help us out.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this appeal. Any donations would be massively appreciated. If you can’t donate, you can also help raise awareness by sharing this on your social media pages. You can also follow our social media on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more updates.

Sincerely,
Harry Crabb of the Birmingham Baseball Club & Birmingham Metalheads
