Birmingham & Midland Institute coronavirus appeal

Please give generously, and please share this appeal to your own social media.

As you will be aware, many venues up and down the country are feeling the pinch from reduced footfall due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The government’s advice against social gatherings and activities is a sensible and necessary precaution in the face of an infectious disease - but it is likely to stretch the resources of our trust.

This in turn could adversely affect our ability to provide our exceptional resources, facilities and community activities when things return to normality.

We at the Birmingham & Midland Institute have set up this fundraising campaign to offset the income which would usually keep the BMI running as the social and cultural hub that it should be, and encourage you to donate to what is an important lifeline for many older people in our society.

From our website:

“Located in a Grade II* listed building, the BMI has a thriving programme of cultural and educational activities, which includes a wide spectrum of arts and science lectures, exhibitions and concerts. The building is also a venue for many externally-organised events and can be booked for conferences and meetings. The Institute also owns and runs the original Birmingham Library, founded in 1779. The Library collection is gradually growing by the regular purchase of new books, principally on the field of humanities and modern fiction.

“The BMI has longstanding associations with a number of independent societies who use the premises for their activities and meetings. Affiliated societies have kindred interests and include the Birmingham Philatelic Society and the Midland Ancestors.”
