We are a small co-educational school in rural Tipperary that have 12 students in attendance in our two Autism classes and 125 pupils in total. The Pandemic has negatively impacted our ability to fundraise over the past while. We are hoping that companies, parents, pupils, past and present and the wider community will help by donating to our worthy cause.
Our Team, consisting of Teachers, SNA'S, the Secretary and Principal at Birdhill N.S, are fundraising for outdoor school equipment.
These resources will greatly benefit our students across the school, in particular those with highly complex needs in terms of sensory experience and regulation. In all seasons it is vital that children have access to a safe outdoor play area for daily movement breaks.
Our initial aim is to raise up to €5000. We wish to use this money to create a small outdoor space that will meet the movement and sensory needs of Birdhill N.S. pupils. If we reach our goal it will allow the school to purchase a swing set and a trampoline that complies with school health and safety regulations/ specifications. These items are proving costly. We do not have much space to work with and are hoping to be able to install a double swing set and a trampoline.
Our longer-term goal for the school is to purchase land.
We have been given the go ahead by the Department of Education for purpose built special educational needs classrooms and facilities (replacing our rented prefab). We do not want to lose our already limited yard space, so hope to buy land to accommodate these facilities. While the Department have sanctioned and will fund the build itself, they do not cover land costs.
