We laid off our entire staff of 53 employees. Most were laid off on March 16th and the rest on March 26th with the governor's stay at home orders. We attempted to keep going and employing people with a week of take-out and delivery but this was not getting people enough hours and for the safety of the staff and the community we shut down encouraging people to stay at home.
It is crushing that as a young business we do not have reserves to be able to support our staff (most everything earned goes to bank loans and supporting the business in the off-season). We have had a few angel customers reach out about how they can help our staff so we decided to create an avenue.
Our plan to move forward is to assess the peak of COVID in our area. Reopen for take-out and delivery after the peak and hopefully move back into regular yet socially distance dining. Many employees have filed for unemployment but haven't seen checks yet. We have applied for the Payroll Protection Program to help get employees paid and an Economic Disaster SBA loan. We have not seen any government aid we have applied for and there are zero guarantees we will get this aid (although we are qualified and sincerely hope this come through). We are constantly researching and encouraging employees to apply for different relief programs out there but they all are frozen due to the number of applications or the funds are depleted.
