Open Slopes PDX: BIPOC Shred Nights !

Open Slopes PDX started as a couple of queer pals that wanted to make the joy of skiing more accessible and disrupt the snow sports culture we know - one grounded in whiteness, generational wealth, heteronormativity, and patriarchy. In March 2021, they organized a mutual aid-funded BIPOC Shred Night where they provided lift tickets, rental gear, POC instructors, and a shared meal for about 8 individuals so folks could learn how to ski or snowboard at Ski Bowl! And we're doing it again this year!!
We want to continue addressing the financial and cultural barriers that come with these sports by hosting 3 of these events (with learnings from last season!) beginning in Feb 2022, where we’re hoping to cover the costs for 36 BIPOC individuals to attend. By minimizing these prohibitive costs, we can create more opportunities for centering adventure, joy, and community within snow sports!
We are looking for support in the following ways:
- Monetary donations to fund BIPOC shred days/nights! We want to cover the costs for lift tickets, rental gear, instructor compensation, food, and transportation.
- Prize donations for when we can safely host an in-person fundraising event at Migration Brewing!
- Volunteers for the events
- BIPOC ski & snowboard instructors (paid)
Any excess funds will be used for gear scholarships that will be distributed based on a lottery.
