Biomechanics in Hawaii

Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Perri Johnson. I’m raising money to help with the financial expenses to take a biomechanics course (Advanced Kinesiology in Hawaii) offered by the University of Memphis from June 11th - June 26th at the University of Hawaii Manoa. In the spring of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic first struck, I was completing my dual bachelor’s degree. After several interviews and rejection letters, I was unable to obtain a job in my field of study. Little did I know, this unfortunate event would turn into a blessing for me. Thankfully, I was able to enroll in the joint master’s Biomedical Engineering program between the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) and the University of Memphis (UM) as a graduate research assistant. Over the past year and a half, I have been exposed to the field of biomechanics for the first time. This experience has deepened my love for learning and understanding the combination of engineering and movement science applied to the human body.

This Advanced Kinesiology in Hawaii course is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I want to take the time to build upon my current foundational knowledge and learn more aspects of data processing programs and biomechanics. This course will help me become proficient using data processing programs. Taking this biomechanics course, studying under different professors, and sharing insights with students from diverse backgrounds can help to expand my own knowledge that I can bring back to contribute to both UTHSC and the UM as a current and future graduate assistant. After completing my program of study, I plan to pursue a career working with prosthetic limbs to innovate current technology to help amputees return to a more normal lifestyle. By donating to my cause, you can help me gain the experience I need to begin to build a successful career so I can give back to help future amputees in need. Any donations, big or small will be helpful! By helping me to enroll in this study abroad program, you’re helping me gain important skillsets that will help lead to a successful career as a biomedical engineer. This will allow me to help people who have experienced a limb amputation due to disease or a traumatic event and help these individuals get back to leading a normal lifestyle.

Any additional profits to my initial goal that will not cover financial/travel expenses will be donated to Church of Adullam in St. Louis, MO and Highpoint Church in Memphis, TN.
