Binx's Kidney Fund

Binx is a red tabby Maine Coon living with 1 kidney. He was diagnosed with Left Renal Agenesis after having an intussusception surgery at just 9 months old. Since his insurance did not start until after his diagnosis, he will not be eligible for coverage for anything in the future for his right-side kidney, or prescription diets. So I have decided to start a savings account for him for all of his future appointments and dietary needs. Your donations will help us with his quarterly blood and urinalysis tests, his food, as well as anything else that comes up involving his diagnosis that insurance won't cover. We appreciate any and all support! All donations made will go directly into the savings account that I have created for him.

According to the IRIS (International Renal Interest Society) system, Binx is classified as being in Stage 1 Chronic Kidney Disease. This is because he only has one kidney, which automatically makes him a stage 1 based on these guidelines. This means he is at risk for the development of further kidney damage in the future. This classification system allows us to monitor/assess his kidney function and simultaneously treat as necessary. With Binx being classified as IRIS Stage 1 CKD, we should routinely monitor his bloodwork and kidney concentrating ability to assess whether his kidneys stable or undergoing changes/damage. Right now, treatment is not deemed necessary and a renal diet is also not in Binx’s best interest as he is a growing kitten who needs adequate protein during his development.
