Billy Olsen Cancer Recovery

In October 2020 Billy began experiencing back pain.  At first he thought it was nothing more than a pulled muscle from playing basketball; However it progressively worsened to the point he had to seek medical help. Early in November Billy was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in several places in his body. After additional scans and many tests, the doctors have diagnosed the cancer as a rare form of melanoma, mucosal melanoma. This is a much more aggressive form than cutaneous (skin) form. While the scans show other areas where the cancer spread from, the immediate concern has been the tumor pressing on his spine and nerves, causing excruciating pain and numbness in his legs. The doctors started radiation but also moved ahead with surgery to remove the rapidly growing tumor to provide some relief for the pain.

Billy is married, the father of 6 children and the sole supporter of his family. He is employed but with the growing pain and numbness in his legs caused by the cancer, it has prevented him from working consistently causing him to take leave from work without pay.   

 At the time of this posting, Billy is in the hospital recovering from the spinal surgery and the family is expecting he will be released today. He is now facing a recovery time of 4-6 weeks along with radiation treatments and other therapeutics.  On the horizon is potentially additional surgeries for the remaining cancer found in his body.
