Bill's Medical & Mobility Fund

Hey friends & comrades,
So in early July while I was in Chicago at the Socialism 2017 Conference I suffered a seizure of an unknown origin and was hospitalized. I was released that day and it seemed to be a mysterious occurrence that hopefully I would never see again. However, I suffered two similar episodes in November while traveling in the UK, and another just this Sunday (12/10). Each time I've lost consciousness for minutes and woken up with my heart racing and no idea of where I am.
So far the medical profession is clueless about the causes of this. In addition to consulting my regular GP and psychiatrist, I've been given an MRI, which (fortunately, I guess) didn't find anything, and I also have an apppointment with a cardiologist and a referral in with a neurologist.
Being poor in the US is terrible for your health and your wallet. I've applied for the Chicago hospital's provident funds, but that hasn't stopped them from sending my account to a collection agency. The MRI, cardiologist & neurologist will cost more than I can bear thinking about, and beyond this if I get lucky & they identify my illness, I'll have to spend even more for any conceivable treatment. I don't have insurance, so all this is costing me a lot of money that I simply don't have. On top of this I live in one of those states that didn't take the ACA expansion & so I've been racking up more and more debt as time goes on.
I'm extremely reluctant to come with my hand out to friends and comrades who are barely (if at all) richer than I am, but my back is against a wall right now. In addition to the above, my GP has forbidden me from driving for six months. I know this is for mine & others' safety, but it seriously threatens my quality of life. I live in Greenville, SC but do most of my organizing with the ISO in Asheville, NC which is 50-55 minutes away. Politics feels like my one lifeline right now, and I will be completely miserable (in addition to having a mysterious illness) should I be cut off from it.
Fortunately I live with a very supportive family member who can take up some of this slack, but it's asking too much for her to go all the way with it. I'm asking for donations for three purposes: 1) to help defray the cost of my already-existing medical bills, 2) to pay the future ones I'll certainly have with this, and 3) to get transportation around Greenville and to Asheville at least once a week—this will be spent on gas and Uber rides when I need them.
Anything you can give at any time will be deeply appreciated by this millenial academic & casual worker. Thank you from every fiber of my being.
Love & solidarity always,
Bill
