Our Dad Bill Kirschner passed away on 08/22/2022. At the time of his death, he was the elected president of the board of trustees for the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department. He was passionate about this organization, having been a volunteer firefighter in the 70s for Tahoe Douglas at the Kingbury Grade Station. His one goal had been to complete his elected term in December, but sadly it was his time to go.

Raising funds to help the TDFD purchase a fire and medical helicopter was essential to Bill. After evacuating his home of 52 years, it became even more critical for the basin to have a helicopter that could take off at a moment's notice to put out a fire. The purchased helicopter would be available to aid recovery and medical efforts both in the summer and the winter. From the TDFD website, "The recent Caldor and Tamarack fires were a wake-up call to the very real and potentially devastating threat wildfire is to our great Tahoe Basin. Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District believes our community can improve our level of protection and response through a FIRE RESCUE HELICOPTER PROGRAM.

Currently, there are no dedicated aerial resources for our area, but by implementing one in our District that serves the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding areas, we could dramatically increase our ability to save lives, properties, infrastructure, wildlife, and the National Treasure that is Lake Tahoe."

Instead of food or flowers, the family would like to honor our Dad's legacy and help in the effort to raise funds for the helicopter. All donations will be distributed to the Fire and Rescue Helicopter program and Operation Save the Basin. This is a charitable donation, and all donations are tax-deductible.
