Bill's boat capsized by a whale
Donation protected
On August 16th, 2018 my father, Bill Sobeck was fishing off the coast of Asbury Park, NJ, when a whale surfaced near the boat. At first, it seemed to have disappeared, but suddenly the boat was lifted straight into the air before turning and ultimately capsizing, throwing my father and his friend over board. Thankfully, nearby fishermen and the Coast Guard came to rescue them out of the water and tow the boat to back to the dock. While we are beyond thankful that my father and his friend have made it through with only minor cuts and bruises, the boat has suffered significant damage and may not be salvageable.
The fee for towing the boat alone was $2500. The cost to repair or replace the boat is still unknown, but will most likely exceed $10,000 . Earlier this year, my father had to undergo an emergent quadruple bypass and I am certain that being on the water in that boat was one of the things that helped pull him through it. My family would be so grateful for any contribution you can make toward it's repairs or replacement.
